Diy binocular hack for digital camera

We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Paul Parker is a commercial and fine art photographer.

On the rare occasion he's not doing photography he loves being outdoors, people watching, and writing awkward "About Me" statements on websites Check out the Fstoppers Store for in-depth tutorials from some of the best instructors in the business.

This is a fun use of modern technology. I would understand your sentiment if the camera had to be mangled in some way, but it has no impact on it.

I would love to make one of these, or purchase one, and pop it into one of my SLRs or rangefinders and mess with it for an afternoon. People take things too seriously, photography can be serious, but it can also be fun, experimental, etc.

It would be fun if the sensor were full frame, but with this microscopic one what quality can we expect with such a crop factor, as even a fisheye lens would become a tele lens? There is more room for the batteries…. Yes that's fair, it needs a larger sensor to make any sense. I believe it can be done, but so far all the kickstarter projects for products like this have gone nowhere.

One can continue to hope! That's pretty cool to see one custom made. I'd be more interested in converting my old DSLRs to be able to shoot film.

The actual focal length of this lens turns out to be about 45 mm, so it will not quite focus to infinity. The flange-to-focal-plane distance of a Nikon is Interestingly, at a diameter of 47 mm, this lens exactly fits in a Nikon lens mount without falling into the camera. And so, I call this lens the antipinhole. With the lens resting in the lens mount, the focus is fixed at about 10 feet. But the big surprise is low contrast and very large halos around any bright objects.

Instead, there seems to be a very broad area from about 7 feet to 14 feet that has nearly the same degree of focus. Of course, the low contrast, halos, and soft focus can all be put to good use as long as you are not looking for the crisp images produced by commercial lenses. All of the distortions I mentioned above can be largely explained by the spherical aberration in this lens. Parallel rays of light passing through the lens near the center come to focus as expected at the focal length.

However, light rays passing through the lens toward the edge focus at a different distance. Spherical aberration is the largest cause of distortion on this lens but it is not the only cause. Chromatic aberration can be significantly reduced by using achromatic lenses, which are made by combining a convex lens made of crown glass with a concave lens made of flint glass.

Fortunately, inexpensive achromats are readily available. Binocular objectives are one source. Another is you guessed it Surplus Shed, where they sell a wide range of achromats including one with a focal length of 75 mm and a diameter of The mechanics involved in making lenses is often more challenging than the optics. Now invent and cartridges to convert all those old cameras to digital. There were a few SLR cameras, notably one in the Retina series by Kodak, which could use most of the Retina 35mm SLR lenses though with some features not supported. I have a Pentax k that I love 35mm with lenses. And film is getting pretty darn expensive.

No real hipster reasoning, I just like the simple controls. All I want or need is quick, manual control of focus, exposure and shutter speed. No fancy bells or whistles. Many people felt that way. So when I took photography in HS i got myself a second hand K myself. Good times. This is so remarkable… Idea has been there for long but so hard to actually make it happen. Especially how you slimmed down the sensor to fit into the film plane.

As for this build in all likely hood the old Leica and the newer Canon both had a landfill in their future. The same could be true for the offspring of their unholy marriage, but Eugene garnered valuable experience. Hipsterism is fundamentally about using consumption to define your identity. You are the bands you like, the artisanal pickles you buy, the obsolete bicycle you inexplicably ride.
